The Khalifa Foundation for Humanitarian Action also provided various assistance to Afghanistan, the most prominent of which was the food fortification project that the Foundation implemented there. Mrs. Thuraya Dalil, the Afghan Minister of Health, praised the support provided by the Khalifa Foundation for the humanitarian work to the Afghan people, pointing to the food immunization project funded by the Foundation and benefiting about 18 million Afghans, most of them children and women.Ms. Dalil said that this project helps improve the diet of children and pregnant mothers, as it is based on adding iodine to salt, which is indispensable for the health of children and expectant mothers.In implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, the Khalifa Foundation, under the supervision of the State Embassy in Kabul, provided urgent relief aid to the victims of rain and landslides in the Afghan state of Badakhshan.The aid included setting up 250 tents for the affected families, and the Foundation also provided relief aid to about 1,300 affected families.Then the Foundation, in cooperation with the State Embassy in Kabul, carried out the second phase of distributing aid to those affected by the floods and landslides that struck a number of Afghan villages and towns in Faryab province, northwestern Afghanistan.A team from the Khalifa Foundation for Humanitarian Works was able to reach a number of directorates in Faryab state and set up a camp of 200 tents to accommodate those affected by the floods and landslides that severely damaged their homes. The Khalifa Foundation team was also able to shelter the affected families in the Dawlatabad district inside the camp and distribute food aid and blankets to 2,9 Afghan families. These distributions included 913 families in Dawlat Abad district, 615 families in Pashtun Kot district, and 491 families in Maimana city in Faryab state center.
