A convoy of relief aids, comprising seven trucks loaded with / 200 / tons of foodstuffs, medical and humanitarian supplies, provided by Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation arrived in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince today.
Dispatching such convoy from the Dominican Republic comes in implementation of the second phase, ordered by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, head of state "may God save and bless him" to provide urgent assistance for the Republic of Haiti, in the aftermath of the damages and losses caused by the quake, which hit its capital, through a relief program to meet the urgent and necessary needs of those targeted there, in coordination with the Government of the Dominican Republic. About 500 tons of emergency relief items and necessary supplies were purchased directly from the local market in the Dominican to be transported by land to Haiti.
Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation’s delegation in Haiti distributed aids among relief camps, mosques and schools. Aids included "water, all the basic foodstuffs and infant milk formula in addition to medical supplies and other humanitarian items to be utilized by more than 8,000 families in the quake distressed areas.
The affected people including men, women and children expressed their thanks and appreciation for aids provided by the Foundation, noting that it helped alleviate the impact of the disaster, which caused havoc and destruction in the regions affected by the quake.
The officials of the displaced and homeless camps expressed their gratitude and thanks to His Highness the head of State and Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for the assistance provided for the affected.
The delegation met with the Imam of Al Tawheed Mosque in the area of Bovina, Marwan Mohammed, and a number of Haitians who expressed their appreciation of those aids which embody the meanings of Islamic solidarity.
Dr. Hillary Cranmer of the Harvard University of America and Operations Manager of "Safe Child" Camp, in the area of Phone Parisian / 25 / km from the capital Port-au-Prince, had expressed her appreciation and thanks to the role played by Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation in providing support and assistance for the quartering camps in Haiti.
The Foundation had focused its efforts, during the first phase of its relief program, including the provision of / 77 / tons of medical and food aids, to save the lives of the injured and enhance the potentials of the hospitals and health centers, near the Haitian borders, which receive the wounded crossing the borders with the Dominican Republic for treatment and medical care.
Dr. Himahtro Salazar, Minister of Health in the Dominican Republic affirmed that Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation is the first organization to provide medical support for hospitals and health centers near Haiti, which had faced a shortage of tools and come under pressure as a result of receiving large numbers of people estimated at approximately 15,000 injured since the quake occurrence, stressing the need to provide those hospitals with additional medical supplies as it receives numbers of cases which exceed their capacity.
Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation is keen to provide further humanitarian and medical relief aids in the coming days through its delegation, in Haiti and the Dominican, to get closely acquainted with the needs of those affected by the quake and to purchase various relief items of humanitarian aids from the local market in the Dominican Republic.
