In implementation of the directives of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Head of State "may God save and bless him" for the relief of the distressed in the Republic of Haiti, Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, through its delegation in the Dominican Republic prepares for implementing the second phase of the emergency relief aids for those affected as a result of the devastating earthquake which hit Haiti on January 12 and the huge material and human damage it caused.
The second phase of emergency relief, ordered by HH the UAE President, is considered of the largest international relief aids through the direct purchase of about 500 tons of emergency relief items and necessary supplies from the local market in the Dominican Republic.
The Foundation's decision to purchase relief items from the local market in the Dominican Republic comes after several meetings and discussions with the UN organizations and diplomatic missions and humanitarian organizations worldwide, as they agreed upon the need to expedite the arrival of aids to Haiti from the nearest point to it before going by land to the distressed areas in order to boost the international relief efforts for the benefit of those affected by the earthquake.
Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation had immediately initiated the implementation of the directives of H.H. Head of State to extend support and assistance to the distressed in Haiti. It had completed its preparations for the execution of the second relief program to meet the urgent and necessary requirements of the targeted currently, in coordination with the Government of the Dominican.
The Foundation asserted that the relief of the Republic of Haiti came in operation of its humanitarian mission at the global arena and within the framework of its interest in the exacerbating humanitarian situation in Haiti and its keenness on reducing aggravation of the humanitarian situation there by expediting the humanitarian action intensively to restrict the repercussions of the conditions suffered by those affected by the earthquake. The Foundation pointed out that it had allocated the necessary funds to carry out the second relief program under which relief items will be purchased from the local market in the Dominican Republic to ensure their fast arrival to the distressed.
Mrs. Clara Martinez de Teddy Di Safa, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic in the UAE State, had earlier expressed her full readiness to receive any assistance from friendly countries and to deliver them to those affected in Haiti.
She said, during a meeting yesterday with His Excellency Mohammed Hai Al Khouri, KBZF General Manager, that her country will spare no effort to bolster cooperation and coordination with the Foundation to deliver the state aids to the victims in Haiti speedily.
The ambassador of the Dominican Republic lauded the charitable and humanitarian activities undertaken by the UAE in general and Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation in particular, to alleviate the human suffering and relieve the peoples facing wars, calamities and natural disasters.
Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation first relief plane had arrived at Las Americans International Airport in the Dominican Republic last Friday, carrying 77 tons of food aids and necessary supplies urgently needed for the Haitian people. The Foundation's delegation in the Dominican Republic received the aircraft and coordinated with the Dominican government to get aids to Haiti as soon as possible.
