Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation sends relief convoy for the victims of Haiti quake

Last night, a convoy of relief aids provided by Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation  for the victims of the earthquake that struck Haiti, left the Dominican Republic. The convoy comprises seven trucks carrying 200 tons of food, medical and humanitarian supplies.

These aids come in implementation of the second phase ordered by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE "may God save and bless him" to provide emergency aids for the Republic of Haiti, in view of the huge damages and losses caused by the earthquake which struck the capital .. Through a relief program to meet the urgent and necessary needs of those targeted in coordination with the Government of the Dominican. About 500 tons of emergency relief items and necessary supplies were bought directly from the local market in the Dominican to be transported by land to Haiti.

Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation pointed out that such aids were prepared on the basis of a previous visit paid by a delegation of the Foundation located in the Dominican Republic immediately after his arrival in Haiti. The delegation got acquainted with the most important basic needs of the food and health sectors in coordination with the Dominican and the Embassy of Haiti in Santo Domingo.

The Foundation's decision to purchase relief items from the local market in the Dominican Republic comes after several meetings and discussions with the United Nations organizations, diplomatic missions and global humanitarian organizations, as they unanimously agreed on the necessity of expediting the arrival of those aids to Haiti from the nearest point to it. Whereas aids to the affected areas were dispatched by land to enhance the international relief efforts for the benefit of those affected by the earthquake.
The Foundation emphasized that relief aids for Haiti had come in implementation of its humanitarian mission in the global arena, and within the framework of its interest in the aggravated humanitarian situation in Haiti and its keenness to reduce aggravation of the humanitarian situation there by accelerating humanitarian work intensively to mitigate repercussions of conditions suffered by those affected by the earthquake.
